Day 4 | Logan Morlan

hey everyone so today we painted, sanded, switched a door on a refrigerator and hung all the interior doors. unfortunately i don’t feel like much was accomplished by us but i know that every detail is still a detail no matter how small. i don’t want to stop working i want to finish this house and they have all these rules that prevent us from completing our projects. i do hope that who ever comes next finishes the houses soon.

Day 3 | Logan Morlan

So today started with me leading devotion, i thought it went pretty well for the most part i had a few people tell me i did a good job afterwards. Day three is over and done and i only have two more days to enjoy working here. Its crazy to think that we have traveled hundreds of miles and spent five days on this journey and its all coming to a end. Today my crew worked here at the compound as those who watched our live stream this morning saw, we were tasked with building two offices and a conference room using this pretty pink wood. yes it was pink and it was very twisted, but nevertheless we had a good day and got everything built. i really don’t want this week to end but i know that we can’t do this forever.

Day 2 | Logan Morlan

Another day down and already I feel like the week is over, things are going by way to fast this happens every mission trip. I very much enjoy working on these trips and it always makes me sad to think that I am running out of time to do more. Today we painted at Cowboy Joe’s house and as many know I have been fired from jobs because I can’t paint but God preforms miracles every day. I was given probably one of the best compliments I have ever gotten on a job today, our crew “foreman” told me that I was a great crew leader and that I helped motivate everyone. In all my years of actual mission’s I have never been able to say that I am the leader of a crew and for someone to tell me that was huge to me. Then more missions I do the more I notice that less and less of the same people return for another trip and one day I will actually be a leader of a crew and it will be up to me to lead whoever I have under me to complete tasks. I hope that I take after the great leaders I have had the privilege to work with and lead others to complete the impossible. Now for the info about armadillos and wild hogs that I promised last night; during the summer months’ people done eat either one of these creatures because of diseases they may carry such as armadillos carry lepersy and hogs can have anything from rabies or diseases carried by ticks and fleas. So, they wait to eat them until the weather is cooler because then they don’t carry these diseases. I’m super excited for tomorrow and can’t wait to see what new adventure awaits.

Day 1 | Logan Morlan

Today was day one of actual work and I’d have to say that it went very well for our group. We went to a house that was down by the bay (there were no watermelons growing there my childhood was a lie) and we worked for a man we called cowboy. His story was very crazy he had moved into that home three years ago just before the storm and while the storm was on its way he had thought about staying and trying to stick it out but then the cops showed up and informed him to write his social security number on his arm because they would need a way to identify the body. He chose to leave after that. He went to Austin and a few days later he saw his house on TV and couldn’t believe what had happened. He later found out that people were using a picture of his house to run scams to several different agencies. He had a lot to talk about and he said the even though he lost a lot he gained so much more through all the people he had gotten to meet. Another thing that happened today was the chaplains visited our site and one of them talked to me for about a good thirty minutes about God and salvation. He then tested me to see if I knew how to lead someone to christ, I passed his test and he began to tell everyone else that I had lead him to christ and how I should be wearing a chaplain shirt. I then gave him a hard time about how I thought that chaplains should be saved as a job requirement. I also found out why people don’t eat armadillos and wild boar this time of year and if you want to find out why then I guess you will have to wait until tomorrow.

Day 5 | Logan Morlan

Well i started out in VBS today playing music, it wasn't bad but i have a problem starting out each day in VBS. Usually on mission trips Russell, Tyler, myself and several (certain) others don't join the VBS crews, normally we are sent straight to the project sights without delay and told to get things started. It has always been that system for years and now i find myself wrestling against my desire to work. I know that God is trying to teach me something but its getting harder and harder to keep my mind focused on God’s lesson when MY desire is to jump into the work. I hope that i don't spend the whole week wrestling so hard that i miss out on the miracles in front of me.

Day 4 | Logan Morlan

Well today was pretty awesome we got to go to the church and hear Kenny preach/ lead worship, he is a very skilled musician. Then after church we went out to eat and then we headed back to the camp to try and locate a swimming hole known as YellowTale. It has been many many years since I went there in fact the last time I was there I had Micah by my side; our last mission together; brings back some memories. When we went today to swim the wind was insanely strong and it made it kinda hard to swim; one kid was swimming in the water and a boat got caught in the wind and almost hit him. He started screaming for help and then like a real life super man Jarren dove in after him; he swam out to save this kid and it was truly an amazing sight. He didn't even know this kid but he didn't care, he just reacted and even though a boat beat Jarren to this boy (only by a second) he still continued to swim toward him to make sure that he could get aboard. There are a lot of people in this world who claim to be heroes/ role models and declare that they should be admired for their efforts, but today my brother Jarren was a true hero and a real inspiration to me. Im glad i got to see my brother try to help someone; YellowTale may just be a swimming hole to some but for me its a lake full of amazing memories.

Day 1 | Logan Morlan

Well we have had a great first day, slept for about 4 hours on the van, played 21 questions, and started eating out of my snack stash. I love going to Montana, its one of my favorite mission trips we take and as we get closer and closer towards our final destination I am reminded of my previous trips and the great memories that i have made. I remember the “out of gas” windmills, and getting to see Yellowtale with Micah along with several other precious memories. I got to hear my father in law share tonight during our bible study, it was really eye opening for me; I hope that the Lord continues to bless us as we travel.

Day 14 | Logan Morlan

Well another adventure is ending and soon it will be back to the normal everyday stuff. Get up at 6 go to work before 7:30 work all day till 4 then go home. Not very exciting but it could be; the mission doesn't end in Haiti, it can carry over to anywhere. Just because we aren't surrounded by an unfamiliar environment or hundreds of miles away, it can be in the town we live in. I will miss this place though, all the people and places, it is all hard to leave behind, especially for two years. I hope to come back sooner if possible, but if not then hopefully i will get the chance to come in two years. I hope this has changed all the younger kids hearts and no one returns how they came, I know it has changed mine. I hope that this feeling will never go away and that we can continue this burning desire to serve when we all get home. I heard a really cool phrase today at the house dedication and it goes “ When Jesus says yes, how can we say no”. I hope these words never leave my mind and that who ever reads this finds some way to have it inspire them to do something for God. A lot of things are about to change in my life, some physical some spiritual. I hope that i remain on the path that God has put me on, inch by inch i feel as if I am finally getting somewhere. I’ll see you all real soon, and begin telling the stories of our grand adventure. I love you Tess.

Day 13 | Logan Morlan

Well today I started out with music and leading a lesson at bible study; I never knew how weird it was to teach with a translator. I don’t think that it was that bad but it was still weird. I talked about believing in the impossible or in the perishable, I thought that I did pretty good for being like my second or third time preaching…….well preachingish. I liked it and I even got thanked by one of the guards he told me that the message really touched him. We got the house all done today, the Haitian work crew really like me; one guy doesn’t like it when I don’t work with him. One time he grabbed my hand and said come we work come come. It was really cool to have gotten the opportunity to work alongside the workers; they have been really helpful in teaching us to properly do things. I’m really sad that I have to come home, even though I’ve done all that I physically can I still don’t feel as if I did enough to help out people here. I really felt it at lunch time, a little kid got caught trying to sneak one of our soccer balls out and the boss brought the ball back to us. The kid just cried and cried cause he wanted the stupid soccer ball and it wasn’t even a good one it was a dollar store 3$ balloon ball. He stood right in front of me and just kept crying and crying it literally made me sick to my stomach, I wanted to just say take the stupid ball, but I just grabbed my stuff and went back to work. I hate not being able to give stuff away, it’s just stuff that we will never use again and we can’t just openly give it to them. It really sucks; I just want to help out people and seeing the amount of people who I just know have never had something as simple as a soccer ball tears me up. Please keep the people of Haiti in your prayers not just them but also BHM, I want to come back in two years, hopefully with an army of Christians ready to change the world. I love you Tess see you all real soon.

Day 12 | Logan Morlan

Well it has been a great day I have worked really hard and tried to do my best. Even though I have physically worn myself out, I still feel as if I haven’t done enough. My heart feels broken as I look around and see how things are for BHM. There is a young man here who is just a year older than me; he has a degree in drafting design and he chose to come here and is going to stay until God tells him to leave. He could’ve done anything he wanted to; and yet he chose to stay because he feels as if he can help the people. I don’t know if God wants me to be a missionary or not but I do know that I feel like I make a difference when I work on a mission trip right up till I leave. Today I spread cement over the walls of the house, I did such a good job they Haitians asked for me to come back tomorrow. Tomorrow will be crazy not only do I have to lead music but I am also giving the message, I think that makes twice in my life maybe three times dad has ever told me that I was going to teach an actual lesson. I hope I do good, I have tonight to prepare; oh yeah dad didn’t tell me until about two hours ago that I was to lead the lesson tomorrow. As much as I miss everyone at home, I really wish that I could stay just another week and build something else that could benefit someone else. I feel sorry for the people who could’ve some on this trip and chose not to, they really missed out. I also feel ashamed after seeing how these people treat church and compare it to how we treat it. These people show up in the nicest things they have and when they sing they let it all out; they don’t care, and then we have people who try to make it through service and then when Mark says amen; bolt out as fast as they can. It makes me sad to think about all that we miss because we don’t think that church is all that important. I know that some people only get Sunday off of work but still, why not spend the day at a church worshiping the Lord or even doing something for God on Sunday. I don’t know everyone’s life, but I do know that God gave everything and the people of Haiti see it, so why can’t we? I love you Tess…………….and Matt

Day 11 | Logan Morlan

Well today has been really good, we went to church and then some people went on the hike to the water falls. The church service was really nice, all i can say is that their mass gets way more involved in the service. In their service every one sang, and sang loudly. They didn't care what they sounded like, they didn't even care that there was about 50 white people in a church that they had never met before. They sang and sang and sang, it was truly amazing. Now the hike was actually really good. We had some great guides, Colton, Johny, and Johny’s brother Feato. Unfortunately i was the only guy from our church group to go on the walk so i was surrounded by girls, who at one point started just rambling on and on and on and on…………and on. But all in all it was a really great trip I’m pretty sad that my adventure here is almost over, i don't really want to go home but i know that i have to. Although that I've done a lot here work wise, i still feel like i havent done enough but i know that i cant physically do any more than i have done already. well i hope that you are all reading these and that you are keeping us in your prayers. Love you Tess.

Day 10 | Logan Morlan

Well it’s another day in paradise, already I am dreading coming home. Today was a hard day as I am sure everyone else explained in their blogs. I can honestly say that I have never been this tired after a job in my entire mission career. I love it here and I really enjoy working here and with all the people. Another thing that happened today was on the truck ride back, but before I explain that I need to tell a back story. The other day I was talking to God about something and today it happened I didn’t even realize it until a little while ago. When we were on our way back this guy just jumped on the truck and stood up in the front by some of the girls. He began to act a little inappropriate towards them, making them very uncomfortable. So I basically surrounded him and when he finally got the picture he decided that it was his time to get off the truck. While I was cutting him off from the girls I heard my dad say that’s my boy, those are my favorite words to hear ever. I wish I could do more things to have dad brag on me like that (and I’m sure he does cause I’m awesome) but I’m just glad that I made him proud today. I hope that I also make God as proud, and that he leans over and says that I’m his boy with a smile. Well there is so much more I could write but I’m going to let other write. Love you Tess

Day 9 | Logan Morlan

well found out that i can lay block pretty well today i also learned how to say hammer like the workers it sounds a lot like someone saying me too. i made a new friend today he is one of the translators; we talked about building houses out of bricks and wood and then talked about jobs. unfortunately i never got the chance to sift sand and i even had some good ideas for songs to go along with them so i guess i get to hold off until tomorrow. its amazing how every time i come here something is different, and not the bad kind of different. there is more and more every time i come here. it was a really good day, im glad that i was able to come once again. love you Tess!………..hey boss

Day 8 | Logan Morlan

Well what can I say other than WE MADE IT! I’ve met up with some old friends and found out what they are into these days. But I have to say it feels quiet here, more than it was the last time I was here. It may just be a slow day but it still. Another thing that was really cool that happened today was right before bible study, Russell and I caught a glimpse of an amazing storm. Lightning was streaking everywhere and thunder was roaring, but the storm clouds had one tear in them and light was shining through. It was just pouring out of the tear, causing smaller clouds to cast huge shadows on the surrounding thunder clouds. It was truly a masterpiece made by God; I’m glad that my family got to come on this trip. I miss you all back home and can’t wait to get back and tell you all about the trip. Love you Tess…………. And hey boss man! Logan Morlan (the real Logan)

Day 7 | Logan

It’s the last night here and no one wants to go home. We have had such a great and blessed time here in Haiti. I talked to Trey ( not Lane’s son) who is in charge of the internships here for summers about the possibility of me getting a spot for next summer. I’m not sure if its what I should be looking into but I just saw him today and it came out. Today we barbered and I was paired with John it wasn’t bad he was good at it I just kinda stood back and watched him go. He was doing good until a guy asked 30 for a knife and he said nah I’ll give you 3. Also I got all the signs written out for Kels, I have no idea if they are right but we shall see. It really sucks to be leaving unfinished, last time I was here I didn’t get to do much and now that we’ve done so much we don’t get to finish. Its eating me up pretty bad I may be kinda down tomorrow. Also I don’t get to say goodbye to my friends from the beach camp, I miss them a lot. I’m gonna really miss this place and if this is my last time I ever get to come back so be it. We didn’t get to see our sponsor child but we did get to meet one of dad’s,he was a little boy named Evans. He’s already one my awesome list cause when we met him he was drawing, so naturally I had to draw him a picture. So I drew him a picture of a parrot and Tyler gave him his bag of toys. It’s a good thing mom wasn’t here or we’d have to pull him out of her luggage on our way home. Well I’ll be home soon so you all can ask me for more stories I miss you all and cant wait to see you all again. Love Logan

Day 6 | Logan

Well today we were split into two teams the awesome team and then the other team, I’ll let you guess which one I was on. Well while the other team went to the market first the awesome team stayed here and worked on the ark, well some of them got to I was routing out scripture on 2x6s in French Creole, and I was using a paper that our translator gave me. Well I had just finished my third board and he brings one of my boards back to me and it just so happened that it was my LONGEST VERSE and he said this u is suppose to be an n, now on the paper you couldn’t tell. So tomorrow I jet the pleasure of re doing it, ain’t I lucky. Well the market wasn’t really that fun for me, it was crowded and noisy. Also there was a guy in a black trench coat who followed us around after he met a few of the girls in the group, lets just say me and Russ kept an eye on him the whole time. Well unfortunately our adventure is coming to a rapid decent and soon I will be back at my boring job and life will go on, but I wish I could stay just one more week, I’ve never not finished a project for a mission trip before. It’s a really weird feeling its like I’m one of those groups that we end up pulling their slack. I really want to get this done and the rest of us do too, its eating up Russell and Tyler, as for me I just really want to get it done so I can play on it! This thing is the coolest park ever! I miss you all and I will be home soon. Love Logan

Monday, June 17, 2013

Day 5 | Logan

Well its been a long day I spent most of it routing scripture into 1x6s, it’s a lot harder than I thought it would be. I messed up on the same scripture three times and it was the same word every time. I just wanna say the lower case e is straight from Satan! At dinner me and Dawn quoted movie quotes from Nacho Lebre, we were having a blast. Well we are almost done with our with our part of the arc and I’m not sure which upsets me worse not finishing the arc or not getting to play on it. Well im gonna get off here and chill out with the others. I miss you all.

Sunday, June 16, 2013

Day 4 | Logan

Awesome!!!!! Its about the only thing I can put on here, I love it here I wish that I could come here more. I know that we don’t see the really bad places with the starving children but it’s a really cool place here. Today we attended a Haitian church service and the first thing that Lane and myself saw was the drum set( we knew they were civilized) during service they would sing a song and we would try to figure out what they were singing. We eventually figured out what song it was and we would sing the English version. We also went on THE HIKE ( bum bum bum) it was fun and even though a lot of people got scraped up and bruised we still had fun. ( but we aren’t going to do it again well atleast not on this trip) I miss everyone and hope everything is going well I love and miss all of you even that stupid fat dog segway. Love you guys see you soon

Saturday, June 15, 2013

Day 3 | Logan

Well another day done, one day closer to returning home to work , stress, and long boring days. However there are also several other things that are at home that I do miss and are ready to see again. But I want to tell you how I felt before I came down here, I didn’t want to come. I thought that it would be crowded and that some of the kids would get on my nerves, well I was right however what I forgot was how I much I miss this place. I miss the people and how they are so happy that someone cares about them. Also its so beautiful down here, like nothing you have ever seen no matter where your deer stand is. If you couldn’t make it here I’m so sorry that you have to wait for the next trip if we ever get to have another. I’m glad that I have a dad that pays my way through life, I’d miss out on a lot if I had to pay my way. I wish that I could’ve helped out I mean I’m kind of a money bum. Now I know that this is long and some of you may not read the whole thing but if it wasn’t for my dad I wouldn’t have came either this time or last year and I would have never had been on half of the adventures I’ve been on. Now my mother also helps out and she cares too and I love her for it. To all my brothers who couldn’t come either from money or other plans I’m sorry that we all couldn’t go on this grand adventure. Well Lanes got a guitar out and is singing some songs so I’m going to hop off here and either listen or sing along I haven’t decided yet. I love and miss you all and to all the other fathers out there who paid the way for their kids to come thank you and happy fathers day!

Day 2 | Logan

Well its day one well actually its day two or dose for all you people my Hispanic fans( if I have any), its pretty cool here I’m having a lot of fun. Unfortunately I had to say goodbye to several of my old friends from last year and I probably wont see them unless I come back or God just makes our paths cross. I miss everyone back home and I’m excited to see everyone again and tell you of my adventure in person. It sucks that I wont be here to see the boat fully done in person, I’m super psyched about it. Oh I almost forgot our first night here was pretty good if you can get passed the spider that wanted to sleep with me, the three people giving birth and Lori pushing Vicky down to get away from the security guard. Well I got to do a lot today like dig holes, carry wood, repair a pick axe, and make a little bow and it worked I was very impressed. Well that’s pretty much all that’s going on today so I’m gonna hop off here and smash some people at Frasket-ball ( its taking off by the way) I miss you all and I’ll be home soon love you all and HAPPY 22ND!!!!
