Day 7 | Shane Oney

Today was another great day, we had the house dedication. It went awesome, the family seemed very thankful and the smiles were awesome. I really enjoyed the music, we all sang amazing grace together and it sounded really neat. After the house dedication we got to meet the child we are sponsoring and that was nice. Then we had lunch at Mountain Made, a cold coke was nice. We went out to do a little shopping in the streets, it is just something you need to do to completely understand lol. Then we went to one of the main shops a little way from the compound, that was the first time we have ever left the compound on foot, kinda felt a little nervous like we had done something wrong, white people walking on the streets lol. But all things said it was a great trip and I feel like we were able to do some good things for the people of Haiti.

Day 6 | Shane Oney

Today was a really good day, we went to the church and finished the windows, then the fun began… Bible School Time! we had a few less kids but we still had a great time watching them play and make crafts and of course eat snacks. But the true highlight of the day was 6 more kids gave there heart to the Lord……..! What a great day! We worked on a few things on the outside of the church after Bible school. We made the fastest trip of the week back from the church 1:15 back to the compound it was a rough ride to say the least. Since the house was finished tomorrow is house dedication, I am doing the Bible study for the dedication so a little nervous but excited at the same time. Today was great!

Day 4 | Shane Oney

Today we got to attend church here at BHM it was very close to the last time we were here. We started about 6:30 and finished up about 9. I struggled a little sitting that long, but enjoyed the service and the music. We went on the hike after church and had a great time seeing Gods creation up close and personal lol… Then we had a nice evening to have bible study outside, then to wrap up the day we put together the next day’s crafts. We are working at the house tomorrow so it will be nice to go see the progress on it.

Day 3 | Shane Oney

Today was a great day, we worked at the church putting in a support beam and then we put on VBS. First off the trip to the church is something everyone needs to experience. WOW is all I can say, In America we ride razors on trails that are exactly like the road we went on today (very rough and steep). Once we got there the view was incredible… The work day was a little tough putting the support beam up and trying to communicate with the Haitian workers was tough. We ate lunch and then the fun began, VBS was a blast; we had so many smiling kids it was a little chaotic but a bunch of fun. I really enjoyed watching my kids interact with the Haitian kids today. I am looking forward to church in the morning and hopefully a good hike.

Day 2 | Shane Oney

Today was another great weather day here in Haiti, we started building a house for a family who is currently living in a tent, thats right a family living in a tent. We had a very good day on the house, all the block should be finished tomorrow. As we were mixing mortar or stacking block the smell from the lady fixing lunch for the Hation workers was incredible…. At the end of the day the family was all standing there looking at the house and the progress we had made with smiles you can only imagine. Looking forward to a goods nights rest, and hitting it hard tomorrow.

Day 1 | Shane Oney

Today started early, we all gathered at MFI and loaded the plane, prayed with the pilot (not something you get to do when you fly commercial) and took off. The flight was great, and once we got out of the airport we started the 11 mile journey up the mountain. A few things looked familiar, but one thing that seemed to stick out was things are cleaner, not clean to American standards but improved for sure. It was great to see Roger & Judy and get to spend some quality time with them. I am really looking forward to getting started on some projects tomorrow.

Day 14 | Shane

What a trip this has been, I am certain of one thing I have a much better appreciation for what I have, where I live. This has truly been a great trip for the family, all the hard work the group before did, and all that we were able to do has been completed. The smiles on the faces is priceless. I truly believe we have left a tool for BHM to use that will change many lives. The only bad thing about today was Madison didn’t get to meet her child that she sponsored. Hopefully if we can come back we can get to meet her and her family. All in all I have been blessed to be a part of this trip, when it all boils down its all about people. We will be headed home tomorrow, can’t wait to see our WV family. Thank you Lord for an awesome week.

Day 13 | Shane

Today was a great day! The ark is so awesome, kids were running everywhere today. It was so wonderful to see the smiles on all the faces! We went to the market today… All I can say is we have no idea; I watch the travel channel and thought I would have a clue of what I was gonna see. T.V. gives you a rough idea, but the true sights, sounds smells, looks, and boy do I mean looks are something to see. Raw chicken, beef and everything under the sun, laying out in the open all day. There were things I honestly could figure out what they were. It was a true look into Haitian life. Keep praying for us as the play ground officially opens tomorrow, it’s going to be wild!

Day 12 | Shane

Today was a very busy and productive day. The ark is really getting close, but its amazing every time we turnthere is something else that needs done. We are taking on more and more each day, from adding sand boxes, flowers to paint. Hopefully with a few more good days we will leave a tool here at BHM that will be used for many years to Glorify God, and many lives will be changed. Well its close to dinner thirty, keep praying for us, that we would be everything God would have us to be!

Day 11 | Shane

We went to a Haitian church this morning, it was a great experience. It doesn’t matter where you are we all serve the same God, and every church has people coming in late, cell phones ringing during service lol but once they were in worshiping no one left, everyone was focused on worshiping God! After church we went on a hike, and let me tell you it was a hike. We went to the fourth water fall, Which was farther than the “A” team was able to make it. It was something to see, the beauty was breath taking, and something everyone should try to experience. I strongly recommend if you get the chance, take the hike, its not for the faint at heart but well worth the walk! Im looking forward to getting back to work on the ark tomorrow and seeing the smiles of the kids. God is at work!

Day 10 | Shane

What an awesome day! Check out Shawn Hunters Blog…. And then you will understand just how awesome today was. The ark is really taking shape, slides, bridges, ladders, swings, signs there is so much work being done its amazing. Kids are showing and checking out the play ground, some with their parents and some without. Today Josiah went down the slide for the first time, the smile was one I won’t forget, yesterday when we were working on the slide he wanted to know if it was ready yet, and I told we had to pour some concrete before it would be ready, so he said ok, can we do that now! So today he went down several times and it was great, then the first little Haitian boy went down and that was exciting! God is at work! I can’t wait to see what’s next. Day 9 | Shane

WOW…. We had an awesome day, the setting is beautiful, the weather was wonderful, and the people were over the top! The playground is really taking shape, several kids stopped by to see if it was ready yet. The excitement is building for the people, even adults stop to watch the progress! We had a small tour of the property here at BHM, we went through the hospital, and some of the gardens, much work has been done, but there is still a lot to be done! I am looking forward to tomorrow, to see how much we can get done, the group is absolutely working together to accomplish as much as possible. Its so much fun to get to work with my family and such wonderful people, God is awesome!

Day 8 | Shane

It has been a wonderful day, safe travels and lots of fun with good friends. I am really taken by the trip in to the BHM, It’s something you have to experience in person to believe. I am really excited to get started working and meeting new people.
