Day 1 | Mickey Skeens

We finally arrived in Haiti today. It has been a long 2 days of traveling. The first leg of the trip began at 2:00a.m. in the pouring rain. It took 14 ½ hours to get to Fort Pierce Florida and 10 hours of it was spent in torrential downpours. You would think we were driving in some rain forest in South America. On Thursday morning we had to be at the airport by 6:00 a.m. and the journey began, once loaded our first flight lasted about 1 ½ hours and we had to land in Exuma Bahamas to refuel. After that we had another 2 hour flight to Port Au Prince Haiti. After we cleared immigration we had a 3 hours bus ride to go 10 miles to our compound in Fermathe. Temperatures are in the mid-nineties, they did tell us that it was cooler now than it was last week where one group experienced the temperatures at 120+ degrees and they were putting a metal roof on a building. Looking forward to tomorrow to get started on my project that I will be spending the week at, I will be at a church that we will be renovating, adding hurricane proof windows, structural support and an addition to expand the church.
